What to look for in a real estate agent?

Realty business has seen a spurt in the last few years, and the scene in Europe is not any different from other parts of the globe. Europe’s real estate business has taken a dizzying ascent to heights never seen before.

The catalyst for a successful deal is the agent. It does not require any superior intelligence to figure out that a real estate agent can make or break a deal. So both sellers and buyers look out for a ‘good’ real estate agent. What are the qualities or traits of a good agent? Well, they say nothing matches experience. The same applies well to a real estate agent as well. The more you have been in the business, the better you are.

A good knowledge of the real estate market is absolutely essential. Not knowing your market, the demand pattern, and the prevailing prices and the way it will head can be suicidal for the agent. Knowledge of the legal process involved in transfer of ownership, lease etc is also essential. It does not cost anything for the prospective buyer or seller to look up another real estate agent in case they find the agent is not able to understand their requirements and needs and also their budgetary constraints, if any.

Good communication skills and interpersonal skills are additional ‘tools’ of a good real estate agent. Convincing the buyer and seller that they are getting the best possible deal is of prime importance. Needless to say, real estate agents must behave with unscrupulous honesty and integrity.

Last but not the least, post deal communication with the client helps to gain that extra edge. One must always remember that most people are likely to remember the ‘guy who helped us clinch the deal’ more than the ‘the guy with whom we struck a deal’.
